Chess Classes for Adults in Surat
Yes, adults learn chess here — working professionals, parents who want to keep up with their children, retirees who always meant to learn properly, and club players who want a rating. A dedicated adults-only batch, Tuesday to Saturday, 7:00–8:00 PM, at Surat Chess Club in Vesu, taught by FIDE-rated coaches on real boards. Start with a free trial session.

Who joins our adult batches
Adults arrive with very different reasons and very different starting points. What they share is that nobody has ever taught them the game properly — and that a screen was not doing it.
You know roughly how the pieces move and lose to anyone who has read one book. You want to understand what is actually happening on the board. You start at Foundation 1, the same level system as our children, taught at an adult's pace, on whichever plan fits your week.
Your child trains here and now beats you. You would like that to stop, or at least to be able to talk about their games. Parents are welcome in the same system their children follow.
Rated 1200 on an app, stuck for a year, no idea why. Our classes put structure under what you already half-know: tactics in order, an opening repertoire you understand, endgames you can actually convert.
You have a FIDE rating, or want one, and need serious preparation. The King Plan with FM Jeet Jain is built for you: calculation, repertoire, game analysis, and preparation support during events.
Same system, adult pace
The ten-level curriculum is the same one our juniors follow — Foundation, Development, Mastery — because the ideas are the same at any age. What changes is speed and depth. An adult beginner can absorb in one session what a six-year-old spends a month on, and can be given the "why" behind every rule from day one.
Sessions are sixty minutes: a concept on the demonstration board, guided practice from puzzle sheets while the coach moves between boards, then a game against a batchmate using the idea. Adults get a workbook for their level, an after-class assignment, and a game to analyse between sessions.

From the classroom to a FIDE rating
Adults can and do get rated. Surat hosts open tournaments through the year, and Gujarat has a steady calendar of FIDE-rated events. Once a student is comfortable with the clock and notation we help them choose the right first event — usually a local open where they will face a spread of opponents.
Play with the clock
Every session already does. By the end of a term the clock is part of the game, not a source of panic.
Record your games
Notation is taught from the first term on every plan. Your own games are the raw material for the next lesson.
Enter an open event
We tell students which Surat and Gujarat events suit them and what to expect on the day. How a FIDE rating works →
Fees for adults
The same published plans as for juniors — there is no adult surcharge. All fees are for three months and include the workbook and puzzle sheets.
Knight, Rook and Queen are the same class with the same coach. You only choose how often.
Not sure how often to come? Do the free trial first. The coach places you at the right level after seeing you play; the plan only decides how often you come.
